He is a founding member of the newly established Remote Access Thyroid Surgery UK group, aiming to advance scarless thyroid surgery services in UK and has recently completed further advanced training in John Hopkins, Baltimore USA and in State University Hospital, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Robotic and Endoscopic Scarless Thyroid Surgery.
Mr Oikonomou has over 15 years of work experience as a doctor and surgeon, and had training in 4 major European University Teaching Hospitals. He gained his MD from University of Ioannina in Greece before becoming a military doctor for the National Greek Army. He undertook training in Roudbout University in Nijmegen, Netherlands and a fellowship in children’s otolaryngology at the Children’s Hospital Armand Trousseau in Paris, France where he was honoured with a D.U. university degree on Paediatric Audiophonology by Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris. Subsequently he undertook head and neck fellowships training at two leading UK centres for robotic head and neck surgery (St George’s University Hospital and Guy’s University Cancer Center), performing complex and minimally invasive head and neck and thyroid procedures.
He worked as a ENT Head and Neck Consultant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK and he is currently a leading consultant for ENT, Head and Neck Transoral Robotic Surgery at St George’s University Hospital in London, being part of the joined St George’s Royal Marsden Hospital Head and Neck multidisciplinary team.
His skills include Head and Neck Robotic Surgery, Thyroid and Laryngeal Surgery, Rhinology and endoscopic nasal surgery, voice and laryngeal surgery sleep apnoea and paediatric ENT, audio-phonology and otology.
He is heavily involved in medical education, establishing and teaching postgraduate courses, including the first London Laryngectomy Masterclass. He has published over 10 original articles in peer reviewed medical journals and has authored 4 chapters in national and international head and neck surgery textbooks. He is an expert reviewer for several ENT international journals.

Mr Georgios Oikonomou is actively engaged in researching Remote Access Thyroid Surgery, Transoral Thyroidectomy, and Parathyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TOETVA & TOEPVA). With a substantial publication record, including 10 contributions to surgical, clinical, and scientific textbooks. Mr Georgios Oikonomou consistently presents his research and clinical insights at both national and international medical conferences.
